The Democrats And Their Politics Of War
I’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating.
The Democratic leadership has got to stop playing this political game. It’s not very becoming.
Has sending the bill to President Bush calling for a withdrawal date (and peanuts) worked for them politically?
Yes, of course it has. The American people are unhappy with the conduct of the war by the civilian leadership, and they overwhelmingly think that the war was a mistake.
Sometimes when you stand on the fence, you’re the first to get shot.
The President has made it very clear. He will not withdraw from Iraq while he is President. I do not believe the current President to be the most trustworthy, but I take him at his word on this one.
So that leaves Congress with two choices. Support the war, or vote to cut funding.
We had a chance to change civilian leadership in 2004, and we chose to “stay the course”. The President is Commander In Chief. He’s the decider. As funny as that sounds, and as wrong as he is on many other issues, he’s got the constitution to back his play on that statement.
I was against going to Iraq, and I’m opposed to staying unless we fight to win. I believe the President has made it clear that he’s not interested in making that happen.
Tell your Representative and Senators to take a stand, either way, on this issue, Tell them we’re tired of the politics of war, and we’re ready to either fight to win, or leave.
If not, its our honorable military that we keep on that fence. They deserve better.

I agree with you about the Democrats on the fence. There are signs however that the Iraq thing MAY be finally turning a corner.
I see that some Republican congressmen have given Bush until the Fall to show some signs that the “surge” is making a difference or they are going to start withdrawing support. Of course this is politics too since the reason that time period is picked is because that’s when the election season really gets underway.
Also, it sounds like Mr. Brown who is taking PM Blair’s place is not going to be supporting us in Iraq so they will likely be pulling their troops out. At that point there is little “face to save”. It will be time, as “they” say, to declare victory and come home!!!!
Yes, we will be out of Iraq (for the most part) by 2008 election time
Yo G,
I agree with you that the Dems are playing politics with the war funding. The call to take military action against Iraq for WMD’s was being called for by the Dems in the later years of the Clinton Administration.
Bill Clinton told Larry King during an interview that on the last day of his administration that Iraw had WMD’s. The Dems wanted to curry votes in the 2004 election by voting to send troops into Iraq and now they have waffled on their position.
When the Dems claim they would have never voted for war if they knew they were “lied” to by the Bush Adminstration they forget that they had access to same intelligence. It should also be pointed out that this intelligence was being provided by the CIA who was lead at the time by Clinton appointee,George Tenant. The infomation was based on the same sources who in the late 1990’s were claiming that Iraq had WMD’s and the Dems were making that claim in the media.
When the Dems start back tracking on their voting record then one of three things must have happened:(1)They believed the intelligence in the late 1990’s and called for military action then well before W was president; or (2)They were stupid for not questioning the intelligence when they voted to fund the war in Iraq prior to the 2004 election; or (3)They are just being Democrats and changing their position on Iraq to curry their anti-war/anti-American wing of their party.
My point was clearly illustrated by Keith Olberman on the video you have on the site. In his rant he points out that the Democratic leadership has abandoned the message they were given in the 2006 election–gets us out of Iraq. What should expect from the Democratic leadership team when they have no moral compass and their voting record is based on politics rather than the courage of their convictions.
