Immigration

Most libertarians believe in a relatively open border. Surprised?

It’s true!!

Libertarians believe that immigrants generally help create new jobs for Americans, not eliminate them. We believe we get the “best of the best” from other countries to come here, and try to build the American Dream. We encourage legal immigration of any law abiding private citizen who wishes to strengthen our country.

The biggest problem that the libertarian movement has with immigration is the burden they put on state programs. Eliminating welfare programs would help with this burden, but a true libertarian would leave it to each individual state to decide the best way to deal with this problem.

The immigration debate is something that both major parties have used to try and divide the nation along cultural lines. Libertarians do not wish to exploit this divide, but rather to bring our country together under a smaller federal government that doesn’t have the power to tread on our civil liberties
