Drug Policy
The War On Drugs has been a complete success for our government. The problem is, we’ve been the targets the whole time…
Many libertarians believe that the war on drugs has been used as a tool to ensure dependence on government.
The war on drugs has targeted poorer areas, minorities in particular, and uses it to continually alter the family in these communities, which then makes it even more difficult for them to break the cycle and and get the chance to seek the American Dream.
Check out the average prison sentence for cocaine, crack, and meth. This isn’t just a racial issue, its a cultural one as well. Rural areas are being attacked by crystal meth, and the government solves the problem by taking the addict away for a while, and then they fine the addicts, who also sometimes have to pay attorney fees. There’s also probation fees, and drug testing fees.
There has to be a better way.
Most libertarians favor the legalization of drugs. Different libertarians have different ideas about this, but the core issue is personal freedom.
Heroine bought at a pharmacy would be safer, cleaner, and less expensive. Addicts don’t break into your house because they’re high. They do it so they can get money for their next high. The mark-up on illegal drugs is enormous (over 1000% sometimes), and that is the real problem.
Treatment works better than incarceration does anyway.
